If you are looking to save energy then D-Link have released the DGS-1005D which can impressively save power by detecting which ports are being used and then turning them off if they aren't in use. As well as this it will also find out how long the ethernet cable being used is so it will automatically adjust the power used accordingly so if you have a longer cable it might need more power than a shorter cable.
You may think that all of the networking features as well as the energy saving aspect of the DGS-1005D will make it more expensive than a bog standard 5 port gigabit switch but you would be wrong.
